A new look Inter and Roma hit five goals as they went on to win their weekend games against Genoa and Novara, respectively. Roma had five different scorers in their 5-2 victory over Novara while Inter’s Diego Milito claimed a hat-trick in a nine goal thriller to help see of the challenge of Genoa in what was the perfect start for their new manager, Andrea Stramaccioni, who just this past week took over from the sacked Claudio Ranieri.  Inter and Roma’s victories also lifted their hopes of snatching away third spot after Udinese, Lazio and Napoli all succumbed to defeats.

Saturday 31st March

AC Milan traveled to inform Catania looking forward to stretching their lead to the top of the table to seven points ahead of Juventus. But Milan was held by Vincenzo Montella Catania side. Milan took the lead just after the half hour when Robinho slotted home from inside of the area after some good work from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Catania got the equaliser just before the hour when AC Milan failed to deal with a corner from the left hand side when Nicholas Spolli bundled the ball home from close range to share the spoils.

Parma managed to overcome Lazio in the Saturday night game thanks to a double from former Lazio striker Sergio Floccari. Parma raced into a two goal lead thanks to goals from McDonald Mariga and Sergio Floccari. Lazio then lost Andre Dias to injury before Lionel Scaloni pulling one back for Lazio. But Parma added a third and it was Sergio Floccari who added his second and added more woes to his former side.

Sunday 1st April

The lunchtime kick off was in the capital and Roma gave a five star performance against relegation threatened Novara side. But Novara took the lead when Andrea Caraccicolo got in front of his marker to head home. But Roma hit back with goals from Marquinho and Pablo Osvaldo before half time. Fabio Simplicio added a third with a wonderful chip just after half time, Bojan added a fourth on the counter attack. Takayuki Morimoto pulled one back but the striker looked like in an offside position. Erik Lamela added a fifth with minutes remaining after Pablo Osvaldo played him in and Lamela scored after cutting in the from the right and his effort went in off the post.

Siena threw a massive spanner in the works for Udinese champions league hopes thanks to a 1-0 win at home. The goal came with twenty minutes remaining when Franco Brienza hopeful shot found Alessandro Gazzi who crossed in for Mattia Destro who powerfully stroked home with aplomb. Udinese were really wasteful in front of goal as talisman Antonio Di Natale missed three golden chances.

Lecce and Cesena played out a 0-0 draw. Gennaro Delvecchio went closest for the homeside when he turned his defender and shot but only to see his effort rebound of the upright.

Cagliari recorded a home win in the sunshine over Atalanta. The first goal came from Daniele Conti who struck a wonderful free kick from around twenty five yards out. On loan Palermo forward Mauricio Pinilla added a second when tapped home un marked from three yards out to give Cagliari the win.

Fiorentina woeful form continues as they are getting dragged into the relegation battle after a home loss against Chievo. Chievo took the lead when Serge Pellissier rounded the Fiorentina keeper and slotted home after a poor back pass from Cesar Natali. Adem Ljajic equalised from a free kick from twenty five yards out which was parried in by Chievo keeper Stefano Sorrentino. Luca Rigoni got the winner for Chievo as he got on the end of a cross from Alberto Paloschi.

Palermo travelled to Bologna and picked up a very impressive away win, Bologna took the lead and it was Fredrik Sorensen scored just after the break with an angle drive. Massimo Donati got the equaliser for the away side as he got a flick header from a set piece. Abel Hernandez added a second for Palermo when he curled home into an empty net after Igor Budan had his shot blocked. Palermo added a third when Abel Hernandez crossed in for Josip Ilicic but Archimede Morleo who was tracking Ilicic slide in and accidentally diverted the ball past Jean Francois Gillet. Palermo was reduced to ten men when Andrea Mantovani was sent off after picking up two yellow cards.

Inter and Genoa played out a nine goal thriller at the San Siro in Andrea Stramaccioni first game in charge. Inter raced into a 3-0 goal lead thanks to two goals from Diego Milito and Walter Samuel. Emiliano Morreti pulled one back just before half time. Rodrigo Palacio gave the home fan nerves as he added a second for Genoa from the penalty spot. Mauro Zarate extended the two goal lead as he cut in from the left and curled in a brilliant effort past Sebastian Frey. Genoa was awarded a second penalty as Rodrigo Palacio was brought down by Julio Cesar. Julio Cesar was sent off and Alberto Gilardino netted the penalty. Diego Milito then completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot; once again he did not celebrate. There was time for one more goal and it was the fourth penalty of the game and Alberto Gilardino made no mistake smashing the penalty straight down the middle.

The Sunday night game was a tactical affair between Juventus and Napoli, both managers went for a three man defence. Juventus came out on top in the game thanks to three second half goals. The first was a fortunate goal as Mirko Vucinic goal bound strike deflected of Leonardo Bonucci and wrong footed Morgan De Sanctis. The second was an elegant strike by Arturo Vidal who with some fancy footwork and step overs hit a lovely left footed drive which went across the keeper. The third was added by Fabio Quagliarella who latched on to an Alessandro Del Piero through ball to lash home.
