There was some idiotic scenes in the Genoa, as the home side -losing to Siena at the time -were demanded to take of their jerseys by their own ultras. The reasoning; according to this small minority of fans the players were not fit enough to wear the club’s colours. Marco Rossi, Genoa’s captain, ceded to their demands and went about collecting jerseys from his team-mates.  This left Genoa Giandomenico Mesto in tears on the pitch. To their credit, at least two Genoa players stood up to the fans, they were Giuseppe Sculli and Sebastian Frey.

While football descended into chaos in Liguria, Juventus added to Roma’s woes, Inter drew blanks in Florence and Milan dropped another two points as they were held at home to Bologna.

Saturday 21st April

There were four games spread over Saturday evening. Chievo took on an Udinese who were still in shock after the death of one of their players in Piermario Morosini who died on the pitch last week in action for Livorno. In all games there was a minute silence; Udinese wore t-shirts with the players face on them. Michael Bradley hit the post for Chievo and the homeside were awarded a penalty when Samir Handanovic brought down Cyril Thereau. Cyril Thereau actually took the penalty and it was brilliantly saved by Samir Handanovic.

Catania under the stewardship of Vincenzo Montella is winning again after a sticky couple of games after beating Atalanta at home. Goals from Alejandro Gomez who netted from thirty yards out which rocketed into the top corner, a contender for goal of the week. The second goal was added by Filipe Seymour.

Parma edged their way from safety with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Cagliari. Sebastian Giovinco opened the scoring from a free kick which was deflected by Michael Agazzi. Parma added to the lead with two penalties in the second half. Jonathan was brought down by Radja Nainggolan, Sergio Floccari sent Agazzi the wrong way and doubled the lead. Parma won a second penalty when Stefano Okaka was brought down by Michael Agazzi who picked up a yellow card. Okaka added the third by calmly side footing his penalty down the middle of the goal.

The late game was Napoli home game with Novara which after a couple of minutes had to be stopped when referee Daniele Doveri dislocated his shoulder and the game had to be stopped for around eighteen to nineteen minutes. Edinson Cavani opened the scoring after a goalkeeping howler when Fontana poor clearance fell to Blerim Dzemaili who the slipped in Edinson Cavani to score. Paolo Cannavaro added the second later on in the first half as Cavani effort was parried to Paolo Cannavaro at the back post to side foot home.

Sunday 22nd April

The lunch time game was a drab affair in Florence where Fiorentina took on Inter Milan. The game ended in a 0-0 stalemate but Fiorentina had the chance to score with over twenty minutes to go when the home side were awarded a penalty after Julio Cesar brought down Andrea Lazzari, Adem Ljajic took the penalty but his spot kick was well saved by Julio Cesar.

AC Milan struggled at home to Bologna and had to be rescued by a late equaliser from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Bologna took the lead when Alessandro Diamanti played in Gaston Ramirez who toe poked home. Milan had Daniele Bonera sent off for two yellows. Milan then got the equaliser when Urby Emanuleson crossed in for Zlatan Ibrahimovic to volley home.

Lazio dropped points at home thanks to a late equaliser from Lecce who inch their way to safety. Lazio took the lead in the second half, Lionel Scaloni crossed in from the right hand side for Matuzelam to powerfully head home. But late on in the game Lecce equalised as Lazio failed to clear the ball fell to Valeri Bojinov who fired home and it left Serse Cosmi to celebrate on the touchline with in his suit, flat cap and shades. Well dressed manager.

Cesena live to fight on for another day as they drew 2-2 at home with Palermo. It was the away side who took the lead when Nicolas Bertolo fired home from inside of the area. Mario Santana equalised for the home side with a wonderful solo effort. Just minutes later the home side took the lead when Vincenzo Rennella chested down and volleyed home. But the goal scoring wasn’t done there as Palermo equalised on half time when a Fabrizio Miccoli corner was headed home by Matias Silvestre.

The big talking point in Italy at the weekend was what happened in Genoa. Siena raced into a 4-0 lead when Franco Brienza with two goals, Mattia Destro and Luigi Giorgi. Before the mayhem happened when the Genoa Ultras protested and asked for the players to give the shirts to them as they did not deserve to wear them. This left one of the Genoa players in tears in Giandomenico Mesto who had to be consoled. Giuseppe Sculli and Sebastian Frey refused to give their shirts to the Ultras. Sculli actually remonstrated with the Ultras right near the tunnel, while when play was about to resume Sebastian Frey got into a heated discussion with Genoa fans behind the goal. The game was stopped for around thirty five minutes and resumed on the fifty fifth minutes. So the remaining thirty five minutes were played and Genoa got a goal an own goal as Siena defender Cristian Del Grosso turned into his own net.

Right the evening game was Roma trip to Juventus and Juventus absolutely destroyed Roma thanks to a brilliant attacking display. Two goals in the opening ten minutes from Arturo Vidal gave Roma no hope at all. Juventus then were awarded a penalty before the half hour when Claudio Marchisio appeared to be fouled by Maarten Stekelenburg, Stekelenburg was given a harsh red card and Roma were reduced to ten men once again. Andrea Pirlo had his spot kick saved by Gianluca Curci but scored from the rebound. Claudio Marchisio added a fourth in the second half to retain their three point lead at the top of the table.

The week 33 fixtures that got postponed over a week ago due to the passing of Piermario Morosini will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and due to the Champions League fixtures that take place this week. The games will kick off 12.30pm, 3pm and 6pm local time.
