Five-A-Day Football News June Monday One-Zero

Match fixing rears its ugly head again, as 33 people and an entire club (AS Bari) were called before a sports trial after being charged with fixing four game. You can read the details in Sports Illustrated. For me, this is personally saddening as a Bari fan that really began following the team during this time period and admired many of the names on this list.

So Juventus fans, how do you feel about the Stevan Jovetic rumors? Well, if you were ambivalent, this might change your mind. Gigi Buffon and Leonardo Bonucci have come out and endorsed the club’s attempts to sign the striker. Read more here.

An interesting story out of the English Championship that will have implications for Italian soccer: the Football League will meet to discuss a rule change limiting the number of players a team can take on loan. The reason for the discussion is Watford taking fourteen players on loan from Udinese and Spain’s Granada last season. Not coincidentally, all three clubs are owned by the same group. Maybe this kind of rule will trickle down to Serie A eventually.

Walter Mazzarri has a plan, according to ESPN’s Mike Whittaker.

Speaking on the new Inter head man, Fox Soccer named him one of their top managers of the year, behind the two Champions League finalists. Antonio Conte gets an honorable mention, but I think Fiorentina fans should feel rightly aggrieved for not getting consideration.

And rather than a transfer rumor, here is a video you must see. Players blame referees, fans, and coaches for losing the big game, but has anyone ever blamed… the wind? Delta Porta Tolle can after they lost 2-1 to Ischia where one of the goals scored against was a clearance that blew back into their own goal! Enjoy the video here.
