Serie A Weekly Five-A-Day Football Thursday June Zero-Six
This week’s issue of ESPN the Magazine in the states has an article examining race, culture, and racism in Serie A. By Wright Thompson, the well-researched story examines different parts of Italy and how changing demographics have led to some of the recent (and historical) ugly incidences in Italian soccer. I think it is unfair that the article does not fully put the issue into a European context, and as a consequence makes Serie A look less racially tolerant than other leagues, but it is a must read for Serie A fans. Check it out here.
Also on ESPN, Mike Whittaker takes a look at the rumour that Inter Milan will sign a game changer in the midfield. He shares his thought on who that “Mr. X” should be.
More Giancarlo Rinaldi! In honor of Italy’s 1-0 win over England in the U-21 European tournament, Rinaldi reflects on taking Italian victory in the tournament for granted and why things have changed.
Why does the EPL seem to get the best talent? That’s where the money is. According to a financial review by Deloitte, the 20 EPL clubs made £2.4 billion in 2011-2012, compared to £1.3 billion in Italy. Read more in The Guardian.
Finally, EPL Talk expands its reach and rebrands itself as World Soccer Talk, in order to cover more articles and news from the world of soccer. I look forward to linking to some quality Serie A articles from Chris Harris in the near future.
Transfer Rumour of the Day: British papers are such a god transfer rumor resource! How about Juventus inquiring about a Carlos Tevez transfer in case their Stevan Jovetic bid falls short? The Daily Mail says it’s a definite possibility.
