It’s been three weeks of consistently talking about the third place in Serie A and now only one fixture remains. Before this weekend, it looked certain that Napoli would end up in the Champions League but after a horrendous loss at Bologna it is once again Udinese who are in the driver’s seat. Although Udinese sit in front, the other three teams are still nipping at their heels and one slip up could cause a complete reshuffling of the standings. […]
Saturday 28th April Roma v Napoli The game of the weekend is between two teams of contrasting fortunes. Roma have lost their last two games, a heavy 4-0 loss to Juventus in Turin and a 2-1 home reverse to Fiorentina. Napoli on the other hand, have beaten strugglers Lecce and Novara to move up to fourth. A huge game in the battle for third place, a Napoli win would leave Luis Enrique’s side with only Europa League football to play […]
There was some idiotic scenes in the Genoa, as the home side -losing to Siena at the time -were demanded to take of their jerseys by their own ultras. The reasoning; according to this small minority of fans the players were not fit enough to wear the club’s colours. Marco Rossi, Genoa’s captain, ceded to their demands and went about collecting jerseys from his team-mates. This left Genoa Giandomenico Mesto in tears on the pitch. To their credit, at least […]
Saturday 21st April Udinese v Chievo Since their departure from the Europa League in early March, Francesco Guidolin’s side have experienced a dip in form that has seen them lose their grip on the last Champions League spot. Only three points will do this weekend in Verona, but they will have to work hard for it. Chievo have rose steadily up the table in recent weeks, and before their 1-0 home loss against AC Milan, the Mussi Volanti had taken […]
Once again Roma and Lazio clashed in the capital and once again the match was filled with drama. A fierce and spirited rivalry, the game played out full of controversy. Two red cards were handed out as Lazio walked away the victor and secured their spot as kings of the capital for the 2011/2012 season. For the second time this season now have Lazio won the Rome derby but with the advantage of having one more player for most of […]
Lecce managed the shock of the round by stunning Inter Milan 1-0, the defeat bringing to an end the Nerazzurri’s six-game winning. Juventus kept their undefeated record intact by defeating highflying Udinese by two goals to nil in very wet conditions in Turin on Saturday. Alessandro Matri was the hero on the night as he claimed both strikes. Genoa and Napoli played out a five- goal thriller which included a belter from Genoa striker Rodrigo Palacio while AC Milan hardly […]
We are now half way through the Serie A season and the main performance of the week 19 weekend was Roma’s 5-1 win over Cesena on Saturday evening. The Luis Enrique project now seems to be taking shape. Later that night Juventus won away at Atalanta and with that win were crowned winter champions. Inter Milan now have won eight games in a row in all competitions after beating Lazio 2-1 in the big Sunday night game. Saturday 21st January […]
Win one, lose one, win one, lose one. That’s the Palermo way at the moment. The Aquile are consistently inconsistent: they’ve alternated between wins and losses in each of their last six games and haven’t strung two wins together all season. They’re hopeless on the road and have failed to score a single goal, but they’ve been unbeatable at home with six wins from six. On Sunday Fiorentina became the latest team to fall at the Renzo Barbera. Delio Rossi […]

The Serie A season is finally underway and with it comes the hopes, expectations, and dreams for all clubs in Italy’s top flight. Everything seems a little brighter with the promises of what can happen but when everything falls apart after the first match, that light is much dimmer than before. Preseason only garnered more questions than answers in regards to Inter manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s formation and tactics, as he has been very insistent in molding the squad to […]
We reach the end of the road in our Serie A club previews for 2011-2012 with Udinese Calcio. Not as flash as big brother Juventus, our northerners from the Friuli–Venezia Giulia region do have an eye for young talent. But as Serie A Weekly writer Lorenzo Vicini points out, shame they couldn’t keep at least one of their major transfers out this summer for Champions League competition, already in their rearview mirror (courtesy of London’s Arsenal). 2010-2011 Recap It was […]
